As Christians, it’s important to be good stewards of the resources God has given us. In this post, we’ll share some practical strategies for saving money without compromising your Christian values. From budgeting tips to thrifty shopping advice, you’ll learn how to be wise with your finances while honoring God. Discover how small changes in your spending habits can make a big impact on your life and allow you to live a simple, yet graceful, Christian life in Australia.

1. Pray for direction

Involve Your Heavenly Father in your journey. As a Father we don’t want to rob God of the joy of being involved in our lives. And when He answers your prayers you will have beautiful stories to tell others of how He will help you.

2. Do a bible study on money

The Bible is the greatest handbook for all of life’s problems. You will be surprised to see how much wisdom can be found in God’s words.

3. Have a vision

Without the why and a long term goal you won’t last long in your money saving endeavours. You can think about how long you want to work, if you want to retire. What dreams you have if you grow your financial resources.

4. Learn from the experts

It’s never too late to change. Whether it be through books, ebooks, blogs,  YouTube, Podcasts, Social media accounts, Audiobooks. You know how best you learn. I have benefitted greatly from listening to Dave Ramsey and Rachel Cruze.

5. Spend time with mature Christians

If you don’t know anyone you can pray for God to send you mentors who will inspire you and stabilise you as they share their experiences on how to grow wealth. They could also become accountability partners. Or be there to pray for you.

6. Get a high interest savings account

This is the easiest way to set yourself up for passive income. And it’s a great incentive for you to save much of your weekly paycheck.

7. Subscribe or follow money saving social media pages

There’s Wholesavers, Catalogues, your local discount food stores may even have a Facebook or Instagram where they share their weekly specials.

8. Be less materialistic

Opshop, Listen to minimalism and decluttering tips. Less stuff = less time to clean up and manage.

9. Side hustle

You might like to try side hustling to see that its better to not spend than try to earn it back. As a lot of side hustles are not easy at all.

10. Try fasting

This one will grow your self discipline and godly muscles, but most of our money goes to eating out or food. And not to mention the health and spiritual benefits of fasting are mindblowing. It’s an ancient practice that throughout civilisations have transformed those who chose to engage in it.

11. Don’t buy straight away

Ask friends or family to help out by getting some things you need or want for your birthdays, as an early birthday or Christmas present. Or you can put it on your wishlist.Practice delayed gratification.

Another idea is that you can save up for it and buy later.

12. Store your treasure in heaven

Be a heavenly minded Christian, not a worldly Christian. You can tithe, think about giving and supporting a missions organisation. In Ephesians 4:28 it says “He who steals must steal no longer; but rather he must labor, performing with his own hands what is good, so that he will have something to share with one who has need.(NASB)”The more that we have worked for, the easier it is to give to others who are in need. We can be generous. And truly be an asset to someone else.

You may also like to think about if you want to claim things as Tax Deductible, but this is each to their own conviction.

A sermon that changed my mindset on money completely was:

Orphans, Widows, the Poor and Oppressed by Derek Prince

I hope this was a blessing.
